(8/7/11)
The Sharks had an excellent
weekend in the pool at
Wexford Leas during the
Tri-County Championships as
we finished 23rd overall,
ten spots better than last
year. You only get points by
finishing in the Top 12 so
even though your relay teams
may be better than most,
that may not be enough to
earn points. Nevertheless,
the talent on the Sharks was
apparent as eight of our ten
relay teams competed this
weekend and all finished in
the Top 20, four finished in
the Top 15 and the 11-12
boys won both of their heats
rather handily to finish 7th
overall in the medley and
ignored the rolling thunder
and rocked everyone in the
first free relay heat with a
sizzling time of 2:07.29
which was faster than
everyone in the next heat
but one to end up in 2nd
place overall. They also
witnessed Coach Katie being
presented with the Division
Championship Plaque that
will be proudly displayed in
our trophy case at the pool.
The Division E Championship
t-shirts got another walk
around the pool for the team
parade on Sunday and
Sharkman was moving about on
land once again, waving to
the crowd.
We had six swimmers make it
back individually on Sunday
to swim in a total of eight
events. Coming back on
Sunday means that your time
on Saturday was one of the
12 fastest which is no easy
feat. After holding the team
banner in the parade, Dennis
Rooney raced to 4th place in
the 11-12 100 IM. Next,
Mackenzie dropped a half
second in her 8&U 25 Free to
surprise everyone but
herself and claim 2nd place
in Tri-County. Sam Gray and
Dennis finished 1-2 in their
50 Free heat to finish 7th
and 8th overall while Liam
Pauli won his 11-2 50 Back
heat to finish 7th overall.
In the 9-10 boys 25 Back,
Nick Aubrey placed 12th
overall while Connor OLeary
kept on getting faster to
finish 3rd overall. The
final individual race was
Mackenzie winning her 8&U 25
Fly heat to finish 7th
overall. It was a long, wet,
and thunderous day for the
Sharks.
Congratulations again to all
